Stepping Into a Portal of Awe, Connection, and Transformation
QUALIA is a full-dome film experience that merges immersive sound, expansive visuals, ancient wisdom, and cutting-edge technology to awaken your senses and inspire inner transformation. More than a show, it's a journey through the 5 Elements, Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space, guided by ceremonial music composed by sound alchemist Laura Inserra on rare instruments rooted in sacred traditions. The visuals blend real-world imagery, CGI, and scientific data, evoking both the overview effect of witnessing Earth from above and the expanded awareness of looking within. Qualia is the word for the deeply personal nature of perception, a reminder that reality is something you co-create rather than simply observe. Whether you come to relax, reflect, dream, heal, or simply be, QUALIA meets you where you are and carries you somewhere new.

About Laura Inserra
Laura Inserra is a sound alchemist and technician of the sacred, founder of Chambers of Awe, creating music-driven immersive works designed as sanctuaries for modern audiences: spaces that soothe, regulate, and awaken awe.
Born and raised on volcanic Sicily, she has explored the invisible world of sound since childhood. A world-renowned Hang musician, she plays hundreds of rare instruments rooted in sacred traditions, including Tibetan singing bowls and Zapotec clay flutes, choosing each for its capacity to move something deep within the listener.
Her work is featured in the New York Times bestseller Your Brain on Art by Ivy Ross and Susan Magsamen, and her music was selected by Johns Hopkins University for research on music as medicine for mental, physical, and emotional health.
Her practice, MetaMusic Healing, weaves sound healing, ancient practices, and modern psychology, bringing music out of entertainment and into medicine. QUALIA, now playing to repeated sold-out audiences across the country, is the fullest expression of her life's work: a space where sound, science, and the natural world converge to help you remember who you are.
The Science and Philosophy of QUALIA
The concept of qualia—the ineffable, subjective quality of experience—has been a central point of philosophical inquiry for centuries. It is the "what it's like" aspect of consciousness, the redness of red, the warmth of sunlight, the profound depth of love. Philosophers from David Chalmers to Thomas Nagel have debated its nature, questioning whether qualia can be fully explained by physical processes alone or if they point to something beyond the material world. The hard problem of consciousness, as Chalmers describes it, asks why and how subjective experience arises from the physical brain—a question that remains unanswered. While many philosophers approach qualia from a theoretical perspective, producer and sound alchemist Laura Inserra brings these questions into the realm of direct experience. Her immersive performances and planetarium show Qualia offer an embodied exploration of consciousness, demonstrating that subjective experience is not merely an abstract concept but something we can engage with on a visceral level. Qualia as an Experiential Gateway Inserra's work bridges the divide between philosophical inquiry and lived experience. Her soundscapes, inspired by ancient traditions and contemporary technology, create immersive environments where participants can explore the nature of their own consciousness. Through instruments like Zapotec clay flutes, the Hang, and an array of rare percussions, she weaves tapestries of resonance that engage the body, mind, and spirit. More than 70% of the musical score for Qualia was originally composed for a research study at Johns Hopkins University, examining the therapeutic effects of music in expanding consciousness and enhancing well-being. Her work aligns with emerging fields such as experiential medicine, a concept explored by researchers like Adam Gazzaley at UCSF, who is investigating how carefully designed experiences can serve as healing modalities. Testimonials from Inserra's performances frequently describe pain relief, emotional breakthroughs, and altered states of awareness—suggesting that her art functions as a form of experiential medicine, a space where sound and vibration facilitate profound transformation. The Power of Shared Experience Unlike virtual reality or solitary immersive technologies, Qualia is presented in a communal setting, reinforcing the power of shared experience. In a time where digital simulations and artificial intelligence are shaping much of human interaction, Inserra’s work highlights the necessity of direct, embodied connection. Experiencing Qualia within the vast dome of a planetarium, surrounded by evocative visuals and enveloping sound, fosters a deep sense of belonging and interconnectedness. It encourages dialogue, shared reflection, and a sense of awe—qualities that have become increasingly rare in an overstimulated and disconnected world. The Philosophical and Artistic Intersection Inserra’s work does not seek to define qualia but rather to induce it. Where philosophers have long debated whether qualia can be reduced to physical explanations, her immersive performances provide a tangible exploration of the mystery. Deepak Chopra, in his discussion of qualia entanglement, suggests that subjective experience is not separate from the fabric of reality but an intrinsic part of it. Inserra’s art embodies this idea, inviting participants to move beyond intellectual abstraction and into direct engagement with the ineffable. Ultimately, Qualia serves as both a philosophical inquiry and a transformative journey. It invites us to consider not just the nature of consciousness, but the role of awe, interconnectedness, and deep experiential awareness in shaping our understanding of reality. In a world that often prioritizes quantitative data over qualitative experience, Inserra’s work reminds us that some of the most profound aspects of being human—love, wonder, and self-discovery—cannot be measured, only felt.
